Charges over football fan fights

The violence began outside the City Arms pub, in Earlsdon, Coventry

Seventeen people have been charged with violent disorder over fighting between rival football fans earlier this year.

Eighteen people were arrested in morning raids at six addresses in Coventry and 14 addresses in Leicester. One person was released without charge.

The 17 people who have been charged will appear before Coventry Magistrates at the end of July.

About 100 Coventry City and Leicester City fans clashed before a match involving the clubs in February.

The fighting took place five miles from Coventry's Ricoh Arena in Earlsdon High Street.

About 130 police officers took part in the morning raids which followed a joint investigation involving the West Midlands and Leicestershire forces.
